Missing frames
The comparison of several albums with
their first publication in le journal de Tintin, are
somandimes quite the same but in some of them a few frames
have been erased to have a standard number of page for the
publication by Casterman. As a result Hergé had to
cut some scenes of his stories. You will see some of the
unview frames below from the seven crystal balls and the
prisoners of the sun. |
The seven crystal balls and
Prisoners of the sun were previously joined
togandher as one story. But after some interruptions
in le Journal de Tintin during the war,
Hergé decided to sand a brief synopsis (12
pages) of the first adventure and then start the
following (prisoners of the sun). He had preferred
this way because some people already knew the seven
crystal balls and he didn't want to repeat again.
So some pages become totally new. The numbers of page below show the position of the missing frames in the new publication. Click on the links to see the pop-up gallery. |

An error occured when Hergé was drawing the story. It was only meant to be 62 pages long,
but when he finished, it was found to be 64 pages long. Two
pages were removed. The two omitted pages were meant to have
appeared toward the end of the story, and covered the rescue
of Tintin's group from the erupting volcano.
The omission meant that the reader now
sees a cliffhanger. At the bottom of one page a seaplane-set
reporter watching the raft holding Tintin's group exclaims
(in the English translation), "They'll be boiled alive like
lobsters! We've got to do something." On the next page
"Thousands of miles away, several days later", the story
switches to Jolyon Wagg's living room as his family watches
a TV interview of Tintin and his friends. |

The first strip of the adventure had to be redrawn. The Studio Hergé didn't realised the carnivalof Santheodoros was in March !! Which makes it Le premier bandeau de l'aventure est réalisé par les Studios en pensant que le Carnaval de Santheodors se passe en été... et bien en mars, il fait beaucoup moins beau.
