Professor Calculus' inventions

This curious scientist has become one of the most unpredictable character in the adventures of Tintin. He first appears in the "Red Sea Sharks" with a prototype of his famous submarine. His success in this adventure will allow him to continue creating inventions very interesting.
Here is a list of all his different inventions which made us dream while reading the adventures of Tintin.

 

Red Rackham's treasure


His first invention is this ingenious submarine which could lead Tintin deep down the Atlantic ocean. But in this adventure Cuthbert shows us other inventions which are less famous: at page 7, we discover a machine to brush the clothes and a wardrobe bed.

 

Destination moon

In this adventure Professor Calculus doesn't know that the rocket he will create, will stay in every single mind and be one of the symbol of the adventures of Tintin.
Because of the failure of the rocket prototype called XFLR-6, Calculus will decide to create another rocket bigger than the first one. That is how Tintin will be the first man on the moon before the Americans.

 

The Calculus Affair

Here is a invention which causes several problems in Marlinspike. This ultrasounds machine was becoming a danger for the Professor who decided to destroy it.

 

The Red sea sharks

 

While Tintin and Haddock trying to save slaves in a boat, Calculus was improving his motor skaters on which he couldn't stay up very long.

 

The Castafiore Emerald

In this adventure based in Marlinspike, Professor Calculus will take profit of the people present to show the several skills he has. First of all, as a scientist he creates the super color-tryphonar which is a big screen television showing strange programs.
And then as a botanist with a new variety of white roses called "Bianca". That is how Cuthbert and the Castafiore will start to appreciate each other.

 

Tintin and the Picaros

Here is the last invention of the professor: a pill to stop drinking...isn't it Captain. This pill is from medical plants, it has no taste, no odour and is not toxic. However one of these mixed to your food will give an horrible taste to the alcohol drunk later on.

In this adventure Professor Calculus has invented a machine to do diapositives in relief and another one to duplicate things with a magic paste.


Tintin and the Golden Fleece


To help Captain Haddock, Calculus has invented red pills called "super-tryphoniol" which are fuel for boats. And at the end of the adventure he shows us the "flying perch" for the parrot Romulus.


Tintin and the blue Oranges

Calculus tries to find the formulae of the blue orange he received, in order to make some grow in the desert.
